Destin at Smarter every day takes us deep into the world of grain bins. Sure–you drive by a farm, you see these giant bins, and you think “Wow, that’s a lot of work.” But that’s not even half of it. The logistic reasons for the bins are obvious, but there are actually economic reasons for them as well. What’s even less obvious is the engineering that goes into designing a container that can store 48,000 bushels of grain harvested at different timeless with different moisture levels and keep them from spoiling. And then there’s the matter of installing these things in the middle of a field and making sure they’re sturdy enough to withstand wind and rain and heat and plagues. It takes more work and more engineering than you probably thought.
