There are so many layers to this 80s phenomenon. It began as a spin-off of a cheap sci-fi movie and eventually had millions convinced that it was actual AI (it wasn’t) and that the character was just another fun, plastic piece of bubble-gum pop-culture to be celebrated (he was actually a pretty sinister character…in a funny way…but not funny for the reasons most people thought.)
